“So here we have in this work two cultures in collision and reflections on three continents – India, Europe and America”
Robert Macdonald | President of the Royal Watercolour
Society of Wales
An international collaboration between printmakers, Sarah Hopkins (Wales) and Muhammad Atif Khan (Pakistan) has taken the form of a collection of 16 limited edition prints.
Throughout 2022, they worked independently on a series of prints and exchanged them via courier for each other to complete. Unwrapping the work revealed an invitation to respond. Each completed print tells its own story and is a unique combination of visual vocabulary with references drawn from their own cultures and heritage
Their project, called Diptych, will provide them with a starting point for a wider programme of activities, where they will share their collaborative experience through lectures, workshops and exhibitions in both Pakistan and Wales.
A fully illustrated tri-lingual exhibition catalogue, in Welsh, English and Urdu with an essay by Robert Macdonald accompanies the exhibition.
Diptych is fully supported by Wales Arts International and the Arts Council of Wales.
